Chandigarh: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will hold a ‘Kisan Sammelan’ in Kotkapura today ‘to expose’ alleged betrayal and discrimination by both the centre and various state governments in the name of debt waiver with the farmers and the farm labourers all across the country.
AAP Punjab president and MP, Bhagwant Mann, Leader of Opposition and MLA, Sukhpal Khaira, Faridkot MP, Sadhu Singh and alliance partner and head of the Lok Insaf Party (LIP) Simarjit Singh Bains and many senior leaders of the party will lead the Kisan Sammelan.
AAP MLA and convener, Farmers and Farm Labour Sangharsh Committee, Kultar Singh Sandhwan, on Tuesday said that farmers and the farm labour were being treated as second class citizens in their own country all over India. They were being forced to end their lives due as they were subjected to the anti farmer and anti agricultural policies introduced by the successive governments all over the country.
“While on one hand the farmers have been completely rendered financially and economically broke the congress and BJP governments with the connivance of certain corporate families were out to destroy the agricultural sector”, he added.
Sandhwan further said as a result the farmers’ annual income in 17 states of the country has been reduced to merely Rs. 1666.
Sandhwan said while on one hand the Modi led BJP government at the centre is waiving off thousands of crores of NPAs of the corporate sector it is abdicating its responsibility to do the same in case of the agricultural sector which is left entirely on the mercy of the state governments.
“AAP will expose the big betrayal and discrimination of both the BJP and the Congress governments with the farmer sector in its Kisan Sammelan being organised on Wednesday at Kotkapura”, added he.
