Amritsar, Punjab: Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh yesterday (Dec. 11) said ‘administration’ should ensure that Noormehal Dera branch in Tarn Taran was closed. He said that it was necessary for the peaceful atmosphere of the region that Noormehal cult’s Tarn Taran branch is closed.
Giani Gurbachan Singh said that the police should arrest those responsible for burning a saroop of Guru Granth Sahib in Jodhpur village in Tarn Taran.
It may be recalled that Noormehal sect followers had attacked Sikhs on October 28 in which several Sikhs had sustained gun-shot injuries. Earlier this month, on December 1, a saroop of Guru Granth Sahib was reportedly burnt by Noormehal dera followers following which the police booked ten dera followers.
Sikh bodies had served ultimatum to Punjab government to close all branches of Noormehal Dera in Punjab before 12 December. Sikh bodies have called a general gathering of Sikhs at Jodhpur based Sikh Gurdwara Sahib for today, where they will be announcing their next plan for action.
