Chandigarh/ Punjab (January 18, 2014): It is learnt that the Akal Takht has decided to bestow the title of National Professor of Sikhism on Dr Kirpal Singh, a Sikh historian and author of several books. The title will be bestowed upon him early next week by Giani Gurbachan Singh, Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib.
According to The Tribune, Dr. Kirpal Singh, who recently turned 90 said: “I have got a communication that a function in this regard will be held on January 21 at the Golden Temple”.
“Even at this age, Prof Kirpal Singh spends six to eight hours daily to supervise the editing of Gurpartap Suraj Granth, 13 volumes of which have already been published and two are under print. The granth is one of the major sources of historical events during the period of the Sikh Gurus” The Tribune has noted.
Born in 1924 in Gujrawalan district, now in Pakistan, Dr Kirpal Singh, who was a founder of Oral History Department in Punjabi University, Patiala, has made a seminal contribution to the modern and medieval history of India.
