Attack on Bhai Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale: 5 held on CCTV footage leads

Ludhiana: As per media reports police on Wednesday (May 18) arrested five persons in connection with the deadly attack on Sikh pracharak Bhai Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale.

Notably armed assailants had on Tuesday (May 17) evening opened fire atBhai Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale’s cavalcade near Ludhiana. Bhai Dhadrainwale’s companion Bhai Bhupinder Singh Dhakkiwale was killed in this attack while Bhai Ranjit Singh had narrowly escaped.

According to Hindustan Times (HT), the police have also recovered four vehicles used in the crime.

As per various media reports, the accused have been identified as Manjit Singh of Dharampura, Ludhiana, Gagandeep Singh, Jaspreet Singh, both from Sahnewal, and Hardeep Singh of Malerkotla. Police have also rounded up Balkar Singh of Baba Bakala in Amritsar who was reportedly driving one of the vehicles used by the attackers.

Police got vital leads in the case after scanning surveillance camera footage from a shop near the crime spot.

HT report notes that [t]hree shells of .315 bore, one live bullet, rifle spring, baseball bats and a tent (used to set up a ‘chhabeel’) were also recovered.

According to media reports the police is also exploring the ‘rivalry’ angle behind the attack.
