Chandigarh/ Punjab (January 10, 2013): According to information former Punjab DGP, Prisons, Shashi Kant today said that Punjab Government was trying to browbeat him through police for his tirade against drugs in the state.
As per certain media reports: Shashi Kant flashed a message via Whatsapp on the morning of Jan. 10, alleging that: “Plain clothes goons of Punjab Police surrounding my house since the morning. Called Chandigarh police. They ran away seeing them.”
While talking to media persons about the averted incident of kidnapping he said that around 18-20 ‘policemen’ in plain clothes had surrounded his house since morning and there were number of vehicles parked around his house.
“I noted these vehicles at around 8.30 and after observing the situation, I called Chandigarh Police. When the Chandigarh cops came, most of the ‘Punjab policemen’ ran away in their vehicles but around 5-6 of those were nabbed by Chandigarh police. One i-20 car also could not be sped away by those who ran away. Police batons have been recovered from the car”, he said.
While talking to P7 News the former DGP said that all those arrested were police personnel from Mohali Police.
He said that he has given a formal complaint to Chandigarh Police as this was an attempt to abduct/ kidnap and browbeat him to stop his campaign against drugs in the state, which he would never stop.
According to YesPunjab, a news portal by H. S. Bawa, the Mohali SSP Inder Mohan Singh Bhatti termed the allegations as ‘totally wrong’ and said that there was no need for Mohali Police to indulge in such acts.
It may be recalled that arrested druglord Jadish Bhola has recently affirmed the allegations leveled by Shashi Kant that Punjab Cabinet ministers were involved in drugs trade in Punjab. Notably Jagdish Bhola has disclosed the name of Bikram Majithia as patron of drug trade in Majha region of Punjab, whereas Badal Dal and Punjab police has been rejecting these allegations as baseless.
