Badal Dal’s so-called clean chit to Narendra Modi over Gujarat 2002 invite strong resentment

Jalandhar, Punjab (September 16, 2013): Even as Shiromani Akali Dal has sung hosannas to Narendra Modi, following the latter’s nomination as PM candidate by the BJP, and has even given him a clean chit over the 2002 Gujarat genocide, certain Sikh and Human Rights organizations of Punjab have questioned Badal Dal’s decision and clean chit to Narindra Modi.

The Dal Khalsa has said that this love of Badals for Modi reflected that their opposition to Congress was not due to what the party did to Sikhs in 1984, but due to the reason that it was a competitor of SAD. “The praise showered by Badals on Modi reflects that there was no relevance for emotions and pain in their politics and there is no difference between Sonia Gandhi, Modi or Badals in shielding and patronizing the perpetrators of mass murders,” said Dal Khalsa spokesperson Kanwarpal Singh. “SAD appears to be conveying that it has no problem with the anti-minority stance of Modi, even as it claims to champion the cause of Sikh minority,” he added.

Punjab Human Rights Organization general secretary Gurbachan Singh said that the SAD going to the extent of giving a clean chit to Modi over Gujarat riots reflected that its rhetoric against Congress over Sikh genocide 1984 was driven by political calculations and that the party had lost its right to speak against excesses against any community.
