‘Ban’ ABVP For Intimidating Delhi University Student Gurmehar Kaur, Says AAP Leader Sukhpal Singh Khair

March 1, 2017 | By

Jalandhar: Staunchly critising the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) student body of right wing hindu nationalist party Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) for inciting violence and intimidating Delhi University student Gurmehar Kaur, Aam Admi Party (AAP) Punjab spokesperson Sukhpal Singh Khaira on Tuesday demanded a ban on ABVP and stated that such acts have proved the fascist agenda of Modi government.

While addressing the media persons Sukhpal Singh Khaira reportedly said that the recent acts of thrashing students and then threatening Gurmehar Kaur on social media with rape threats has proved the ‘absolute majoritarian’ thought of the RSS-BJP in the country. “We demand a ban on ABVP, as it was unleashing politics of hatred. Such acts were corroborated by the RSS”, Sukhpal  Khaira demanded.

The AAP leader also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi for trying to create a divide between Hindus and rest of India. He said that the previous such incidents of ‘intolerance’ in the country involving ABVP were pre-planned chain of events he maintained in his statement.

“By intimidating Gurmehar Kaur (20), ABVP has insulted women in the country. Hurling abuses, threatening with rape and death has actually exposed the sick mindset of ABVP.

“AAP  convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and its leadership condemn this episode. It is a complete violation of fundamental right of speech and expression”, he said.

The AAP leader while further questioning the disturbing and illogical statements made by the leaders of ruling BJP said that the they were equally responsible for such controversy as they are the one who instead of arresting such hooliganism of ABVP youth at Ramjas College supported it which lead to  threatening Gurmehar Kaur with foul language. “Even Delhi Police remained a mute spectator in this entire incident. It was only after Gurmehar Kaur filed a complaint with Delhi Women Commission that the police swung into action”, he maintained.

The complete silence on the part of SAD (Badal) on this entire episode has raised eyebrows  on the seriousness of the ‘Nanhi Chaan’ a campaign for the women’s rights which is championed by Harsimrat Kaur Badal who happens to be a minister in Narinder Modi’s cabinet and member parliament of SAD (Badal) from Bathinda. Furthermore he maintained that “SAD should make their stand clear on this issue, as a girl from Punjab was targeted by the ABVP”.
