Bhai Beant Singh’s martyrdom day observed at Akal Takht; Kin honored by Jathedar, Sikh bodies

Amritsar, Punjab (October 31, 2013): An annual function was held this morning at Akal Takht Sahib to mark the 29th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Beant Singh who had laid his life while punishing Indira Gandhi for ordering attack on holiest Sikh shrine – Darbar Sahib, Amritsar.

Bhog of Akhand Paath of Guru Granth Sahib Ji were held in the memory of Bhai Beant Singh Ji near Akal Takht Sahib at around 8 am, which was followed by Gurbani Kirtan by Darbar Sahib hazoori ragi Bhai Sukhwinder Singh and his ragi jatha. Bhai Kulwinder Singh performed Ardas and Giani Malh Singh read the ‘wak’ from Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

Today’s samagam was attended by Giani Gurbachan Singh (Jathedar Akal Takht Sahib), Giani Jagtar Singh, Bhupinder Singh (Asst. Manager Darbar Sahib), Baba Harnam Singh Dhumma (Damdami Taksal), Baba Baljeet Singh Daduwal (Panthic Sewa Lehar), Bhai Harpal Singh Cheema and Baldev Singh Sirsa (Akali Dal Panch Pardhani), Bhai Kanwar Pal Singh, Satnam Singh Paunta Sahib and Sarbjeet Singh Ghumaan (Dal Khalsa) besides representatives of various other Sikh organizations and members of the Sikh sangat.

Kins of Shaheeds honored by Jathedar and Sikh bodies:

Jathedar Akal Takht, Giani Gurbachan Singh along with Bhai Harpal Singh Cheema (ADPP) and Bhai Kanwar Pal Singh (Dal Khalsa) presented a plaque of honor to Bhai Sarabjeet Singh son of Shaheed Beant Singh. Speaking on the occasion Giani Gurbachan Singh said that Shaheed Beant Singh was a ‘national warrior’ of the Sikhs and he would remain a source of inspiration for the Sikhs.

Shaheed Satwant Singh’s brother Wariam Singh and Shaheed Kehar Singh’s son Satwant Singh were also honored on this occasion.

Appeal to join 1 November “Freedom and Justice March” at Jalandhar by the Sikh bodies

Speaking with the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) over the phone, Bhai Harpal Singh Cheema – acting president of Akali Dal Panch Pardhani (ADPP) has appealed to the Sikh sangat, especially the youth, to participate in the Freedom and Justice March that is going to be held at Jalandhar on 1 November 2013.

The march is being jointly organized by ADPP and the Dal Khalsa to mark the 29th anniversary of the Sikh Genocide 1984.
