Mansa (September 26, 2009) As per information provided by Advocate Ajit Singh Bhangu & Advocate Lakhwinder Singh Kaliraun judicial custody of Bhai Daljit Singh Bittu, Prof. Gurbir Singh and Gurdeep Singh Raju is extended till 7 October 2009.

“Bhai Daljeet Singh Bittu is sent back to Amritsar jail, while Prof. Gurbir Singh and Gurdeep Singh Raju are sent to Bathinda Jail” informed Advocate Bhangu.

Prof. Gurbir Singh was arrested by Mansa police for allegedly masterminding the murder of a Dera Sauda Sirsa (DSS) follower Lilli Kumar Patwari, while Bhai Daljeet Singh and Gurdeep Singh Raju (a Sewadar at office of Bhai Bittu’s political party) were arrested by Ludhiana police and were charged under various sections of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

Later on the Mansa police charged Bhai Bittu and Raju with murder of Lilly Kumar and even applied ULA(P) Act 1967 to this incident also. This case has taken a dramatic turn with these development as the police has totally ignored the facts of FIR and statements of eyewitness and has proceeded against those Sikhs and Sikh leaders who are participating in and leading a peaceful struggle against vicious activities of DSS.

As per FIR registered by the police in Lilli Kumar murder case, Bali Singh, brother of the deceased had named three identified persons including Dr. Chhinda, Mithu Singh and Daljit Singh alias taini (all are residents of village Alampur Mandra, District Mansa) and another unidentified person. Bali Singh has clearly stated in the FIR that Dr. Chhinda and Taini fired at his brother Lilli Kumar. Mansa police initially arrested all the three named persons and took their police remand but later on they were altogether discharged by the court at the request of police/prosecution as ‘the police was unable to find any evidence against them’. Police has arrested several other persons also who are charged with the murder of Lilli Kumar, those include Amritpal Singh (Kotdharmu), Gamdur Singh (Jhanduke), Karan Singh (Jhanduke), Raj Singh(Kotdharmu), Makhan Singh(Sirdulgarh) and a 15 years old boy Binder Singh (Kotdharmu).
