Canadian Sikh politician S. Jagmeet Singh (NDP) visited Punjabi University, Patiala

Patiala, Punjab (February 03, 2013): A Canadian Sikh politician S. Jagmeet Singh visited Punjabi University, Patiala on January 31, 2013 to address a gathering of university students at “Students Home”. S. Jagmeet Singh is Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) representing Bramalea Gore Malton, Ontario, Canada.

He was invited to Punjabi University by a Students’ body named Sikh Students Federation (SSF) on a “Ru-b-Ru” (Face to Face) event.

S. Jagmeet Singh, who was accompanied by S. Gurrattan Singh (Sikh Activist Network) addressed a gathering of around 70 ‘versity students.

He was formally introduced to the gathering by SSF former President S. Parmjeet Singh Gazi.

While addressing the students S. Jagmeet Singh shared his childhood experiences that how he adopted the Sikh appearance and the Sikh way of life.

He informed that there were many problems and challenges that were posed by social surroundings. But he put this faith on Guru Sahib and was able to win over all the challenges. He opined that one could overcome any challenge if he/she put faith on Guru Sahib and Sikhi.

It is notable that S. Jagmeet Singh is first ever Amritdhari Sikh who was elected as MPP in Canada. He has won the election on the candidature of New Democratic Party (NDP).

Smartly dressed in a suit, with a beautifully tied Dumala, the young Canadian leader called upon the youth of Punjab to adopt the Sikhi values in life.

He emphasized on equality of women and their participation in every sphere of life.

He also took open questions from students and spent considerable time in meeting the students personally.

“It was wonderful experience. There was so much to learn form S. Jagmeet Singh”, Preetpal Singh, a student of Punjabi Department told Sikh Siyasat News (SSN).

S. Gurpartap Singh, President of Punjabi University Unit of Sikh Students Federation conducted the proceedings of stage during this function.
