Amritsar, Punjab (April 21, 2014): Congress candidate for Lok Sabha elections 2014 from Amritsar (Punjab) constituency, Captain Amrinder Singh, has courted another controversy. Former Punjab CM Amrinder Singh, who had been opposing June 1984 Sikh martyrs memorial raised inside Darbar Sahib complex, has now given ‘clean chit’ to Congress leader Jagdish Tytler who faces allegations of perpetrating genocidal violence against the Sikhs in November 1984.

Criticizing Amarinder Singh for giving a ‘clean chit’ to Jagdish Tytler, a body of victims of November 1984 violence held a demonstration at Amritsar on April 20, wherein an effigy of Amrinder Singh was also burnt.

Leading the protest, members of the 84 Victims Relief Committee marched towards the election office of Captain Amarinder Singh to stage a protest. As they were stopped by the police near the office, the committee members, led by their president Kuldeep Singh Bhogal, staged a protest there itself. They burnt Amarinder’s effigy and raised slogans against him and Jagdish Tytler.

Talking to media, Kuldeep Singh Bhogal said, “[b]y giving a clean chit to Tytler, Amarinder has rubbed salt on the wounds of the Sikhs. We are fighting for justice for the past 30 years and today Amarinder is giving a clean chit to Jagdish Tytler.”
