Chandigarh: A team of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) reportedly arrived in Moga on Sunday (June 17) evening. The team is probing three cases related to Beadbi incidents, including the Beadbi of Guru Granth Sahib in Bargari on October 12, 2015 that had triggered massive outrage from the Sikh Panth.

Punjab police chief DGP Suresh Arora said in a press release issued yesterday that the Punjab Police was providing the CBI team full access to the suspects and would continue to provide the CBI with its complete assistance and cooperation in bringing the ongoing investigations to completion and to bring the guilty to book.

DGP further stated that during the course of recent investigations by the SIT into an ‘arson and Damage to Public Property’ case of Moga district of 2011, the role of certain suspects has come to light, who have been arrested and produced before the competent court, which has remanded the suspects in police custody. The investigations by the SIT have also provided strong leads and material information relating to the investigation of cases presently under investigation by the CBI.

Notably, the investigation of 3 cases (FIR no. 63/2015, 117/2105 & 128/2015 PS Bajakhana, district Faridkot) relating to sacrilege/desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib was handed over by the Punjab government to the CBI in November 2015 and the CBI took over the investigation of these 3 cases after registration of FIR no. RC 13(S)/ 2015/SC-III/ND, RC-14(S)/2015/SC-III/ND and RC-15(S)/2015/SC-III/ND dated 13.11.2015, PS SC-III/ND, New Delhi.
