Amritsar, Punjab (August 23, 2014): While refusing to offer any comment without watching the movie, Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh clarified that Bhai Beant Singh, Satwant Singh and Kehar Singh were “great martyrs” of the Sikh nations.

According to a news reported by Harpreet Singh Gill published in a Punjabi vernacular, Daily Ajit, Giani Gurbachan Singh said that he could only offer any comment about ban imposed by the Indian government on screening of Kaum De Heere after watching the movie.

He, however, said that the characters reportedly depicted in the movie (Bhai Beant Singh, Satwant Singh and Kehar Singh) were great martyrs of the Sikh nation.

It may be recalled that the movie was set to be released on August 22 but India’s Ministry of Home Affairs, Information and Broadcasting Ministry and Central Board of Film Certification imposed ban on the movie on August 21.

Meanwhile, there have been widespread criticism of Indian government for banning the movie. A Sikh body, Dal Khalsa , termed the stalling of Kaum De Heere movie as first onslaught of Modi government on Sikhs.

SGPC President Avtar Singh Makkar, Dal Khalsa leader Kanwarpal Singh Bittu, AISSF president Karnail Singh Peermohammad and United Sikh Movement leader Bhai Mohkam Singh has demanded the lifting of ban from the movie.

Meanwhile the producers of the movie have said that ban on Kaum De Heere was a politically motivated decision.

It is notable that Punjab BJP, Punjab Youth Congress and a fragile section of Shiv Sena were demanding ban on the movie “Kaum De Heere”.
