CM Amarinder Singh Seeks Rs. 50 Crores from Centre for “Modernisation” of Punjab Police

Chandigarh: A release issued by Punjab government today disclosed that Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh has sought Rs. 50 Crores from the Centre for “modernising the police force” in the state.

The statement also mentioned that the Central Minister Rajnath Singh “congratulated” Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh for “his government’s success” against gangsters in the state. The statement also makes a mention that the ‘congratulation’ from the Central minister were “particularly in the context of the recent ‘gunning down’ of ‘most wanted gangster’ Vicky Gounder in an encounter”.

Rajnath Singh met Punjab CM during a luncheon meeting with Punjab Governor VPS Badnore. “The meeting focused on matters related to internal security, with thrust in cooperation between the Centre and the State to maintain peace and stability in the region”, reads the statement.

“Underlining the need for modernization of the state police force to meet the prevailing challenges, the Chief Minister sought from Rajnath a Rs 50 crore grant for the same. He also reiterated his earlier request for two companies of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to replace IRB in Punjab’s prisons, where his government has already initiated sweeping reforms”, the statement reads further.

Amarinder Singh termed the state of Punjab as a “sensitive border state” and stressed for a “high level of security network, with a modern police force”.

Besides Media Advisor to CM Raveen Thukral and DGP Suresh Arora, Captain Amarinder Singh was accompanied by Chief Secretary Karan Avtar Singh and Principal Secretary Tejveer Singh.
