Ludhiana: The row over Gippy Grewal’s new song video “Zaalam” has deepened as the Punjab police has initiated “investigation” in this matter. Some of the leaders of the Congress party were demanding registration of a police case against Gippy Grewal for allegedly ‘glorifying’ militancy.

A news reported by The Tribue (TT) notes that Gippy Grewal, Punjabi singer-turned- actor has distanced himself from the issue. In a statement to the police, Grewal maintained that he had not released the video of the song.

Confirming this, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP), Crime, Mukhwinder Singh said, “Gippy has stated that the video is yet to receive clearance from the censor board. Gippy has told us that the video, which is being shown on video-sharing websites, was uploaded by the company. We have referred the case for DA-Legal’s opinion, following which appropriate action will be taken.”

The police officials did not reveal whether Gippy had joined the investigation.

The ADCP said measures were being taken to ban the televising of the video from all mediums of communication (video-sharing and micro-blogging websites.)

In his Punjabi album ‘Zaalim’, Gippy Grewal has played the role of a militant, who aspires to become a soldier but joins militant ranks due to police atrocities. The message at the end of the video flays judicial system for it’s failure.

Gippy Grewal could not be reached for comment.
