Bholath/Kapurthala, Punjab: In a shocking incident two women have reportedly been given electric shocks by Punjab police inside a police station in Bholath area of Kapurthala. The women were admitted to a private hospital where they were referred to a civil hospital in Kapurthala. Their condition is stated be normal.
As per information duo were detained for interrogation in a Rs 15 lakh theft case that took place in Lakhan Khole village.
Former village Sarpanch Inderjit Kaur, who had accompanied the women to the police station, was made to sit outside while they were questioned in the case. When the women did not return for over two hours, Inderjit Kaur went inside the police station and found them unconscious.
Inderjit Kaur claimed that the women were subjected to torture in the police station and electric shocks were given to them.
Inderjit reportedly told media reporters that she shifted them from police station to a private hospital in Dyalpur village and then to Kapurthala civil hospital. It is learnt that Lakhan Kole resident Darshan Kaur had kept Rs 15 lakh with her sister-in-law Jeet Kaur and the amount was stolen. She lodged a complaint with police but did not name anybody. Police summoned Jeet and her mother-in-law to the police station for questioning in the matter.
“I accompanied them to police station on Monday and we reached there at around 10 am. ASI Raghbir Singh took the two inside while I was waited for their questioning to end. After quite sometime, I went inside and found that both women were lying unconscious,” Inderjit Kaur said.
“Then I was told that they were given electric shocks during questioning. I called people from the village and then we shifted both to the hospital,” she said. The attendants of the duo said Jeet was not still fully conscious.
Taking a serious note of the issue Senior Superintendent of Police Dhanpreet Kaur has reportedly suspended ASI Raghbir Singh for his alleged involvement in the incident.
SSP has reportedly deputed Bholath DSP Mukesh Kumar to probe the matter and submit a report.
