Amritsar: Contesting Gaini Gurbachan Singh for stating that only Jathedar Akal Takhat can convene the Sarbat Khalsa, the Dal Khalsa said even the Khalsa Panth during crisis can call the Sarbat Khalsa but venue should be in all probability the Akal Takhat, being the central place for all the Sikhs.

Party spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh in a strong rebuttal to Jathedar’s utterances said when the present incumbent loses its trust and credibility, in such situations Khalsa Panth in its collective wisdom can gave a call to hold the Sikh congregation. He, however, said without exception, appropriate place to hold such historic event is Akal Takhat. He said theirs group along with Panch Pardani has already asked the organizers of Nov 10 event to shift the venue and reset the date to make the event wider representative and less controversial. He said Sarbat Khalsa in an historical institution in which Sikhs with divergent views, perceptions and ideology sit together, resolve their differences to address issues of common concern and chalk out joint strategy to counter enemy’s designs.

He took a jibe at Gaini Gurbachan Singh for calling the Sarbat Khalsa called by various Sikh organisations on November 10 as illegal. From where does the question of legality arisen, he asked. Speaking historically and in principle, he said Jathedar was not above Khalsa Panth. “He is simply spokesperson of the community”. Moreover a disgraced person (present incumbent) has no right to point finger on others shortcomings if any.
