Amritsar, Punjab (August 15, 2011): The Dal Khalsa today extended its felicitation to the people of Pakistan for enjoying the fruits of the independence and rued that Sikhs were not lucky enough to get their own Homeland 64 years ago on this day.

Party’s secretary for political affairs Kanwar Pal Singh in a statement said while Pakistan was celebrating its 65th Independence Day today with great fervor and India would do so tomorrow, we, the Sikhs regret that ‘we had missed the bus’.

The organization that has been aspiring for self-rule for Sikhs have shot off a letter to Pakistani people through its New Delhi embassy expressing their solidarity with them on the occasion of their independence.

“Pakistan is passing through a critical phase facing multiple challenges including internecine bloodshed. However, we are hopeful that with the grace of Almighty, determination and farsightedness they would be able to pass through difficult times and period of turmoil”, reads the letter.

Tomorrow on Aug 15th citizens of this country would also be celebrating their national day and we extend our felicitation to them also, said he. However, he regretted that their (Sikh) sovereignty was usurped by the Indian state, either by chicanery of the Hindu leadership or by default of their own leadership.

The organization’s spokesman urged the world powers and the Indian state to acknowledge not only their (Sikh) identity as Nation but also their right to self determination in accordance with international treaties and covenants that all democratic nations are expected to adhere and oblige.
