Moga: To protest against the incidents of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib, failure of government to punish the guilty officers responsible for killing two Sikh demonstrators at Bebhal Kalan and denial of right to self determination to Sikhs, the Dal Khalsa will hold demonstration at Ludhiana on Aug 15.
Terming the Indian independence day as black day for Sikhs, the organization gave a call for boycott of celebrations. “We urge the people including teachers and children’s of schools and colleges to stay away from government sponsored functions as there was no reason for Sikhs to celebrate Aug 15”, said Kanwar Pal Singh, spokesperson of the Sikh hardliner group while speaking at a meeting of party workers here today.
He said the present struggle of Sikhs seeking Azaadi for Punjab was based on broken promises made by Indian leadership to their forefathers at the time of partition. “We were lured to join India, but unfortunately Indian leadership refused to fulfill its commitment and betrayed our community. Since 1947, Sikhs were facing political subjugation, atrocities, abrogation of our civil, economic and political rights”.
He said the protest rally at Jagroan bridge on Aug 15 would be peaceful and disciplined. He clarified that traffic will not be disrupted. “The aim is to show our resolve and desire for Azaadi from India.
Dal Khalsa leader was deeply concerned and perturbed as how badly Dalits were being treated by Hindutva brigade. Denouncing the shameful silence of PM Narendra Modi on the continued atrocities against Dalits, he was of the view that Dalits and other minorities were facing terrible prejudice in India. He said the so-called cow-protection vigilantes were spreading lawlessness and creating fear psychosis in the minds of others who don’t subscribe to the beliefs and ideology of Hindutva. The tragedy was that the government of Narendra Modi has adopted a policy to patronize lawless vigilantism. He opposed the Punjab government’s move to impose cow-tax
