Dera follower murder case: Sikhs bodies protest against alleged undue harassment of youth by Faridkot police

Faridkot: Alleging undue harassment of Sikh youth by the Faridkot police, representatives of various Sikh groups and local Sikh sangat held a protest at NH 15 highway. Notably, Faridkot police have reportedly taken two Sikh youth namely Gurjeet Singh and Ranjit Singh into custody in relation to murder of a dera follower in village Burj Jawahar Singh Wala. The villagers and relatives of arrested persons allege that the police duo have no link to the incident and they were engaged in Gurmat Prachar. They accused the police for targeting the Sikh youth under political pressure.

As per reports, heavy police force was deployed at Gurdwara Sahib of village Buraj Singh Wala in wake of local Sikh sangat’s suspected protests. Gurjeet Singh and Ranjeet Singh were taken into custody by the police on Monday.

As the protesters gathered at Gurdwara Sahib, Jaito DSP Jagdish Bishnoi assured them that no ‘excesses’ would be meted out to Gurjeet Singh and Ranjeet Singh.

When the district police did not release the arrested youth, the Sikh sangat held a peaceful demonstration at NH 15, after which the police allowed some Sikh representatives to meet the arrested persons. At the time of reported the Gurjeet Singh and Ranjeet Singh were still in the custody of the Faridkot police.
