Jalandhar, Punjab (April 16, 2014): According to media reports [t]he Jalandhar Police and the Aam Aadmi Party candidate from Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat heaved a sigh of relief Wednesday as the person who had called on the mobile of the candidate to deliver a threat surrendered in a police station here.
Akshara Jyoti Mann, the AAP candidate from Jalandhar (Reserve) constituency had received a call on her mobile phone. The call was received around 4 pm and taken by her assistant Mahinder Pal.
The caller who had named himself as Karan had said that Jyoti Mann could be attacked during her campaign. He had asked to convey the information to AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal.
Jyoti Mann, accompanied by other leaders of the party had filed a complaint with the police.
However, the drama unfolded as Karan, a ‘depressed’ supporter of the party, surrendered himself before the officials at Police Station Divison No. 5 along with his mother.
Karan son of Suresh is a resident of Guru Ravi Dass Nagar, Maqsudan.
His mother told the police that he was under some kind of ‘depression’ and did not mean what he had said.
The police were probing the case but indicated that they were unlikely to take any action as AAP candidate and other party leaders were also not pressing for an action against Karan.
