Earthquake shakes Japanese island of Honshu; Magnitude 6.8, No threats of tsunami

Tokyo: As per media reports an earthquake hit the main Japanese island of Honshu. According to US Geological Survey the magnitude of earthquake was 6.8 on richter scale, though USGS had originally reported the earthquake as 6.9 magnitude.

The quake was centered 74 miles (119 km) southeast of Morioka, Japan, at a depth of 24 miles (39 km), USGS said.

There was no threat of a tsunami from the earthquake, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.
