Amritsar: The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) has decided to limit the time period of using fireworks for celebrations of Prakash Gurpurab of Guru Nanak Ji to ten minutes.

The SGPC, which used to burn firecrackers on Gurpurab from 20 to 30 minutes, is also looking for an alternative in order to keep the Darbar Sahib premises pollution-free.

Environmental organizations like Eco-Sikh have been urging SGPC to stop burning fire-crackers on Gurpurab as it leads to pollution.

“We have taken the decision in order to ensure that pollution level around the shrine comes down. We will also ensure that the fireworks used on Gurpurab are those that emit lesser pollutants”, a representatives of SGPC reportedly told media.
