Chandigarh: With hardly one day to go before the canvassing period for the state assembly elections comes to an end the Punjab Congress permanently expelled three more rebel candidates for their alleged anti-Congress party activities. Those expelled from the party’s primary membership for staying adamant on contesting against the official party candidates are Baldev Singh (Acting President, BCC Dirba-I), Jagtar Singh (President, BCC Dirba-II) and ex-Mayor Surinder Mahey (Jalandhar West-34).

An official order, signed by PPCC president Captain Amarinder Singh, to this effect was issued on Wednesday.

Since last week a total of 21 of rebel candidates has been expelled by the Punjab Congress party for refusing to withdraw from the electoral race in favor of the official party candidates in the fray from different assembly segments of the state.

The party leadership had decided to take strict disciplinary action against those refusing to toe the line with regard to contesting the assembly polls in Punjab, while continuing with its efforts to amicably persuade the rebels, some of whom had acceded to Captain Amarinder’s personal request in the matter.

The PPCC president has assured all rebels agreeing to leave the fray that they would be accommodated in key positions after the Congress government is formed in the state.
