Fasting Sikh activist, Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa, shifted to DMC as health condition deteriorates further

Ludhiana: Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa, who has been on hunger strike for more than 6 months now, was reportedly shifted to DMC Hospital (Ludhiana) by police and civil administration. He was admitted to Civil Hospital Ludhiana by police on July 20. As per Daily Ajit, a Punjabi vernacular, the administration decided to shift Bapu Surat Singh to DMC Hospital at around 1 a.m.

As per information deputy commissioner Rajat Aggarwal, civil surgeon and SSP Ludhiana had a meeting with other officials and the matter was reported to high officials in Chandigarh. After receiving green signal from there are official the administration shifted Bapu Surat Singh to DMC.

It may be recalled that the police had started forcible administration of glucose to fasting Sikh activist Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa last evening, after his health condition had deteriorated. Bapu Surat Singh’s daughter Sarvinder Kaur said that the police ordered them to leave the hospital room where Bapu Surat Singh was kept under supervision of medical specialists.

Notably Bapu Surat Singh had stopped drinking water on July 20 evening when he was forcibly admitted to civil hospital of Ludhiana by the police.

Meanwhile, the deadlock continues on the issue of Sikh political prisoners as Bapu Surat Singh has refused to end his hunger strike unless the concerned Sikh political prisoners are released. The punjab government has already jailed the leaders of Sangharsh Committee formed to supervise the struggle for release of Sikh political prisoners. Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal in a his recent statement made at Amritsar yesterday said that “the release of Sikh detainees not under jurisdiction of state government”.
