Fatehgarh Sahib: Former member of Indian Parliament and Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar (Mann) president S. Simranjit Singh Mann has raised questions about Indian government’s strong reactions against death sentence awarded to an Indian Citizen Kulbhushan Jadhav by a military court in Pakistan.
Notably, a military court in Pakistan has sentenced Kulbhushan Jadhav to death for spying. Indian government is maintaining that the sentencing was improper.
In a written statement issued in Gurmukhi/Punjabi today (copy available with the Sikh Siyasat News), S. Sirmanjit Singh Mann said that he and his party was against the death sentence in principal but, he says, the question was that when Indian state itself uses death sentence against minorities and struggle nations of the sub-continent then on what grounds it was objecting to death sentence awarded to Kulbhushan Jadhav?
S. Mann’s statement has come during a time when there is much outcry by the Indian government against Kulbhushan Jadhav’s sentencing and India’s Minister of External Affairs, Sushma Swaraj has issued strong statements against the neighboring country saying that the Indian government will even go “out of way” to save life of Kulbhushan Jadhav.
Simranjit Singh Mann condemned the Indian state for holding double standards on the issue of death penalty.
