Amritsar, Punjab: Former Damdami Taksal leader Bhai Mohkam Singh today floated a new political party named ‘United Akali Dal’. The announcement came after the (former) United Sikh Movement held a meeting at Guru Nanak Bhawan in Amritsar on Saturday (Nov. 22). As per media reports around five hundred people attended the meeting.
After remaining engaged on different platforms during past Mohkam Singh was exploring the possibilities of forming a political party for past few months. He had formed a platform named United Sikh Movement with Gurdeep Singh Bathinda and other. The United Sikh Movement (USM) had extended support to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) during last Lok Sabha elections.
Talking to the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) Bhai Mohkam Singh said that the United Akali Dal (UAD) will work for seeking ‘more political rights’ for the state. He said that UAD had formed ‘Punjab agenda’ and ‘Sikh agenda’ which would form basis of their political activities.
The United Akali Dal will remain open to hold talks with any group or individual on the basis of ‘agendas’ announced by the party, he added.
Bhai Mohkam Singh said that Baba Baljit Singh Daduwal, Damdami Taksal representative Giani Davinder Singh, Balwant Singh Gopala, Balwinder Singh Jhabal, Surinder Singh Ghaliara, representatives of Shiromani Akali Dal (1920), representatives of Shiromani Akali Dal (Longowal) and some members of the People’s Party of Punjab and the Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar (Mann) also attended the meeting.
