Amritsar:  As per the media reports former head of takhat Damdama Sahib Giani Gurmukh Singh here on Monday claimed that he has received a letter threatening him to stop opposing Sirsa-based Dera  Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim and submit an apology.

Giani Gurmukh Singh said that the letter allegedly written by some anonymous dera follower was sent to his ancestral home at Arif Ke village in Ferozepur. The anonymous letter mentioned dera head Gurmeet Ram Rahim as ‘Guru ji’.

Since the past couple of months  former acting jathedar has been opposing the dera in his preaching. “I have been threatened to stop it and submit an apology,” he adds.

“The letter was in a sack found near the main door of our ancestral home. The letter had some abusive and threatening terms targeting me. I can make out that it is from Sirsa dera’s side. Its writer advised me that since I have always opposed ‘Guru ji’ , it would be good for me if I apologise, as Badal ‘sarkar’ is out of power,” he stated.

Furthermore, while interacting with the media he said that the matter has been reported to DGP Suresh Arora, SGPC chief secretary Harcharan Singh and Amritsar Police Commissioner SS Srivastava & “they assured me of all help.

I stood up for Sikh religious tenets. Such threats cannot stop me from performing my duty as a Sikh preacher. I will conduct religious congregations as per ‘maryada’ everywhere. I invite dera supporters to have an open discussion with me on any platform,” Giani Gurmukh Singh claimed in his statement.

SGPC chief secretary Harcharan Singh said, “Steps would be taken to ensure Giani Gurmukh Singh’s safety,” reports The Tribune (TT).
