New Delhi, India (July 13, 2014): In yet another statement that would further bring harassment Akhilesh Yadav led Uttar Pradesh government, UP Cabinet minister Abhishek Mishra reportedly said that ‘deployment of constable behind every woman in the state is practically impossible’.

The highly controversial remarks by the Samajvadi Party (SP) leader came after he was questioned regarding the measures taken by the state government to curb rising crimes against women in the state.

According to Zee News, Abhishek Mishra, who is a Ph.D holder from University of Cambridge and was a faculty member of IIM Ahmedabad, further went on to say that there was “no mechanism to keep a tab on men venturing out at night”.

“How can we keep a check on where does a husband goes at night, leave alone woman?,” said Mishra.

Soon after Mishra made such statements, several women activists condemned these remarks. The opposition was also quick in criticising the controversial statement of minister.

Many states/ cities in India, including the capital city (New Delhi), are considered specifically unsafe because of high rate of crimes against women there.
