Ahmadabad: The people of Gujarat has begun voting for the first phase of the Gujarat state assembly elections for electing the next state government. The voting began at 8: 00 AM in the morning, the polls for the first phase will be for 89 assembly constituencies of Saurashtra amd South Gujarat region of the state.
The polling process will continue till 5 PM in the evening. It is reported by the media sources that around 977 candidates would be competing against each other for the 89 assembly seats. The pro-hindutva Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has been in power consistently for the last 22 years and would be looking forward to secure a fifth term for itself. On the other hand the Indian National Congress (INC) with the support of other anti-incumbency parties and Patidhar leaders trying to make a break through in this elections.
