Amritsar, Punjab (December 10, 2013): Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa reportedly declared today that he shall not end his hunger strike until all the 6 Sikh prisoners are released from jail. He has been on hunger strike for last 42 days was demanding release of 6 Sikh political prisoners who were not being granted parole or permanent release despite serving the minimum mandatory terms of their sentences.
According to a news reported by Jasbir Singh Patti publaihsed a bilingual news portal ‘Punjab Spectrum’: Bhai Gurbaksh Singh said that he had come to Akal Takht Sahib to attend the Ardas Samagam after the bhog of Sri Akhand Paath Sahib held by Bhai Baldev Singh Vadala for his ‘charhdikala’.
Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa reportedly said that even though he had agreed to adhere to the orders of Akal Takht Sahib jathedar to take medical assistance yesterday, but he had not ended his hunger strike. He said that he would continue with his hunger while the medical assistance shall also go on.
Meanwhile, Bhai Lakhwinder Singh and Bhai Shamsher Singh were not released from Burrail Jail today. There was no confirmed information from any quarters about the exact situation of the process of their parole. However, Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa reportedly said that these two Singhs shall be released tomorrow.
It may be recalled that the Five Member committee which was assisting Bhai Gurbaksh Singh in his struggle for release of Sikh political prisoners had yesterday returned it’s authority to Bhai Gurbaksh Singh after the later had decided to finalize the conclusion of his hunger strike in a meeting with Giani Gurbachan Singh and Giani Mal Singh.
While answering to quires posed by some media persons about the status of parole process of Bhai Lakhwinder Singh and Shamsher Singh, Bhai R. P. Singh of Akhand Kirtani Jatha said that the committee members had returned their authority to Bhai Gurbaksh Singh yesterday. He further said that he had no fresh information about the process of parole of these Singhs.
“May be Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa, Giani Gurbachan Singh, SGPC or DSGMC could update on this matter” he added.
Similarly, Bhai Harpal Singh Cheema in a brief address to the media said that he had come to Akal Takht Sahib to remind Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa about his ardas if he decided to end his hunger strike before the actual release of the concerned Sikh prisoners.
