BRAMPTON, ON: On Saturday (November 2), Brampton Wards 9 & 10 City Councillor Harkirat Singh and Regional Councillor Gurpreet Singh Dhillon led an initiative to plant 550 trees at Gore Meadows Community Centre in honour of Guru Nanak ji’s upcoming 550th ‘Parkash Gurpurab’.
Nearly 300 residents participated in the event, which included the unveiling of a new ‘Guru Nanak Street’ sign, which will be installed later this month at a recently approved location in Brampton, along with a commemorative tree which was planted by both Councillors at the community centre to mark the occasion.
“Today’s tree planting was reflective of Brampton’s values of peace and harmony, and by taking care of our environment, we are building a better world for future generations” said Councillor Dhillon.
Councillor Singh, who was instrumental in working with city staff to organize the event, noted his thanks for the community’s support.
“I am extremely grateful for the immense support the entire community has shown for this initiative. Promoting positive environmental awareness is very important to me,” said Councillor Singh.
“To have been able to do that, along with unveiling the street name, is something that I am very grateful to have been part of.” Also in attendance were Caledon Regional Councillor and Chair of the Toronto Regional Conservation Authority, Jennifer Innis; MPP Gurratan Singh; MPP Sara Singh; MP-elect Maninder Sidhu; and members of the Peel Regional Police, Canada Border Services Agency, EcoSikh and the Ontario Gurdwaras Committee.
