Haryana Governor gives assent to Haryana SGPC Bill; Hooda Govt. gears up to form ad hoc HSGPC

Chandigarh/ Haryana (July 14, 2014): According to information available with the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN), the Haryana Governor Jagannath Pahadia today gave his assent haryana Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (HSGPC) Bill, that was passed by Haryana state assembly on July 11.

With the governor’s assent, the Haryana Sikh Gurdwaras (Management) Bill, 2014, will be notified as an “Act”. After notification, which is a mere matter of procedure now, the Act shall come into operation.

According to media reports the Haryana government is all ready to set up an ad hoc committee to manage the affairs of the state’s Gurdwaras till members to the Haryana Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (HSGPC) are elected.

The parent body Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC), often called as the mini-parliament of Sikh which controls gurdwaras across Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, had submitted a memorandum to the Haryana governor opposing the new bill. SGPC had urged the governor not to give his assent to the bill.

Governor Jagannath Pahadia, appointed by the Congress-led UPA government and a former Congress leader, completes his five-year term as governor by the end of July.
