Amritsar: A 15-member team of heritage experts, including US archaeologist John Rupert and notable sculptor Avtarjeet Dhanjal, visited Amritsar city on a personal tour.
“The group comprising internationally acclaimed artists Sanna Karlson Sutisun from Finland, Richrad Cox from the UK, Ali Najjar from Sweden among others arrived in the city after attending a seminar by the Lalit Kala Akademi, Chandigarh”, notes The Tribune (TT).
The team took a brief tour of the holy city’s heritage sites. It also visited the Darbar Sahib and later went to the Numismatic Museum at archaeological expert Dev Dard’s residence in Islamabad. Keenly observing the historical artifacts at the museum, which includes a massive coin collection and terracotta pottery, the experts commented on the limited efforts of preserving the heritage in Amritsar.
“The team explored various historical items and interacted with the students of Atam Public School. They also gave live demonstration of their talents, including sculptor making and painting for school students,” said Dev Dard.
“The experts were impressed by some of the significant displays in the museum like coins from the sixth BC onwards, Indo-Greek era and 400-year-old metallic urn. Dhanjal headed the team of experts on this tour”, TT news report notes further.
