New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India has ordered status quo on the Satluj Yamuna Link canal. Supreme Court was quick to take notice of reports of levelling of the controversial canal after the Punjab assembly passed a bill to return the land of SYL canal to the farmer from whom it was acquired about three decades ago. The SCI has appointed the Central home secretary and the Punjab chief secretary and Director General of Police as receiver of the canal.

A constitution bench headed by Justice Anil R. Dave passed the status quo order on an application moved by Haryana government.
