Indian Supreme Court’s Directive Goes up in Smoke on Diwali Night

Chandigarh: As the media reports revealed today, there was massive violation of Indian Supreme Court’s directive imposing curb on firing the crackers on Diwali night. The SCI had imposed a curb of 2 hours for firing the crackers on the night of Diwali (Nov. 7) but the limit was not even observed by Delhi where the SCI is located. People burst crackers till late midnight. Besides Delhi violations were also recorded in major cities like Mumbai, Kolkata and Jaipur.

Pollution levels in the Delhi and its surrounding areas entered the “severe-plus emergency” category owing to a toxic emission of firecrackers. The AQI which is considered good between 0 to 50 was recorded in Delhi at 574.
