Kashmiris in Brussels release “Black Balloons” to mark the black day on August 15

Brussels (August 15, 2012): Kashmiris and their supporters in Brussels released hundreds of “Black Balloons” to mark the black day on the August 15, India’s Independence Day. The exclusive event was organized by Kashmir Council EU led by Mr. Ali Raza Syed to observe the 15th August, the Indian National Day as black day in the capital of Belgium.

The exceptional procession titled “Peace with Justice in Kashmir” started at from Place Schumann on bicycles and with Black Balloons in front of EU Council & EU commission buildings and ended at Place Luxembourg in front of European Parliament where hundreds of black balloon were released to mark the black day.

The two hour drive of the cyclists carrying the black balloons diverted the unusual attention of the pedestrians passing through the different avenues.

Placards containing slogans; Peace for all, peace for Kashmir, stop human rights violation in Kashmir, Kashmir needs help, we want freedom and free Kashmir were also hoisted with the balloons at the conclusion of the event

On the occasion, Chairman Kashmir Council EU Ali Raza Syed said, holding black day by the Kashmiris on the Indian Independence day shows that we Kashmiris cannot accept occupation of our land by the Indian authorities for a long time.

A large number of Kashmiris expatriates and their sympathizers were assembled on the occasion. Volunteers of the Kashmir Council EU also collected signatures in connection with “One Million Signature Campaign’ during the event.

Speaking on the occasion, Ali Raza Syed condemned the continuously killing of the Kashmiris by the Indian forces in the held Kashmir. He termed the killings as barbaric. “The occupation authorities have given the troops a free hand to undertake genocide of Kashmiris,” he said

He urged international human rights organizations to pressurize India to stop the reign of terror unleashed by Indian troops in the occupied territory and redeem the right of self-determination to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
