Nabha: As per media reports, Khalistan Liberation Force chief Harminder Singh Mintoo was allegedly liberated from Maximum security jail, Nabha on Sunday (Nov. 27, 2016) by armed persons.
Armed men in police uniform on Sunday broke into Nabha prison in Punjab’s Patiala district and helped several inmates escape, including Harminder Singh Mintoo, noted a report by Times of India (ToI).
Earlier it was said that five persons had escaped from the high security prison but as per latest and confirmed media reports six persons flee from the jail. Besides Harminder Singh Mintto and Kashmir Singh, four gangsters namely Vicky Gounder, Gurpreet Sekhon, Amandeep Dhotian and Kulpreet Singh aka Neeta Deol escaped from the prison.
As per Indian Express (IE) it was a plan of Vickey Gounder’s men to get him and his companions free from jail and after Harminder Singh Mintoo and Kashmir Singh had joined them after they got a tip about the escape plan.
Punjab police have reportedly flagged a high alert across the state and on borders of Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir.
As per reports the armed men came at around 10 am and they were dressed up as cops. “They even used handcuffs placed on other two men to disguise them as real cops,” ToI quotes unnamed police official saying.
Notably, few days back eight SIMI activists who were said to have escaped from Bhopal jail were later killed by the police in an encounter.
Harminder Singh Mintoo was facing trial in ten cases, of which he was granted bail in two cases and one case was time bounded by the Punjab and Haryana High Court. There was a case in Amritsar where the Punjab police was presenting charge against him alleging that he was still in Pakistan.
