Ranchi: After the conviction of former Bihar chief minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav in the fourth fodder scam earlier this week, the special CBI court on Saturday sentenced him to 14 years imprisonment and Rs 60 lakh fine in the fourth fodder scam pertaining to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 3.13 crore from the Dumka treasury in the early 1990s.
While interacting with the media sources the CBI counsel said that CBI judge Shiv Pal Singh awarded two sentences of seven years each to the former Bihar chief minister under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Prevention of Corruption Acts.
“Will go to higher court against the judgement,” defense counsel of Lalu Prasad Yadav reportedly said.
The conviction has been made under 120-B (criminal conspiracy), read with 419, 420, 467, 468 (pertaining to cheating, forgery etc) of Indian Penal Code and PC Act. A fine of Rs 60 lakh has also been imposed. The judgement was pronounced by special CBI Judge Shiv Pal Singh via video-conference, notes Indian Express (IE) in its report.
Subsequently, whilst reacting on the verdict his son and former deputy chief minister of Bihar Tejashwi Yadav maintained that there is a threat to his father’s life. “He is a victim of a political conspiracy of BJP and JD (U). The RJD calls has also called for an emergency meeting of its senior leaders.
His aide and former chief minister of Bihar Jagannath Mishra wasn’t convicted and was later acquitted in the case along with 12 other accused.
