Amritsar, Punjab (November 13, 2013): It is learnt that the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) has got clearance from Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh to install air-conditioned system at historic Gurdwara Manji Sahib diwan hall near Sri Darbar Sahib, Amritsar.
Akal Takht Jathedar reportedly told certain media-persons that a decision in this regard has already been taken and SGPC has been asked to ensure that the signs of June 1984 attack on Darbar Sahib by India Army should be preserved near Manji Sahib.
Manji Sahib had remained the place of general gathering during the Dharam Youth Morcha 1982-84.
It is notable that the SGPC had major hand in erasing the signs of armed attack of June 1984 in which thousands of Sikh pilgrims were massacres by the Indian army that had used tanks to destroy Sri Akal Takht Sahib, situated in front of Darbar Sahib.
Previously when Miri Piri Nishan Sahib and Darshani Deodi of Darbar Sahib were repaired by SGPC, all the signs of attack viz bullet marks etc. were erased.
The attack of June 1984 has become part of Sikh memory as a cultural trauma and SGPC is often criticized by the Sikhs for erasing the memories of tragedy of June 1984.
