Martyrdom Day of Shaheed Dilawar Singh observed at Akal Takhat Sahib

Amritsar/Punjab (August 31, 2012): Martyrdom Day of Shaheed Dilawar Singh was observed at Akal Takhat Sahib today for the first time. Bhai Dilawar Singh had assassinated Punab chief minister Beant Singh, who was considered responsible for widespread abuse of human rights in Punjab between 1992-1995.

It is worth mentioning that Akal Takhat Sahib, eternal seat of Sikh sovereignty, issued an edict earlier this year declaring Bhai Dilawar Singh to be “national martyr of Sikhs”. The titled of “living martyr” was endowed upon Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana, a companion of Bhai Dilawar Singh who is facing death sentence awarded by Indian Courts for assassinating CM Beant Singh.

According to information available with “Sikh Siyasat” today’s ceremony was largely attended by representatives of various Sikh organizations, family members of those involved in assassination of Beant Singh and Sikh sangat.

In today’s ceremony the recitation of Saloks of 9th Guru Ji started at around 07:00 am. Kirtani Jatha of Bhai Sarabjeet Singh, Hazoori Ragi, recited kirtan for approximately 30 minutes after the bhog. After the Ardas Bhai Baldev Singh of Akhand Kirtani Jatha briefly addressed the gathering.

Family members of Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara, Paramjeet Singh Bheora, Lakhwinder Singh, Gurmeet Singh and Harjeet Singh were honoured on this occasion.

Besides this Advocate Navkiran Singh, Advocate Amar Singh Chahal and Advocate Baldev Singh who were defence councils in CM Beant Singh assassination case were also honoured on this occasion.

Those present on this occasion included Baba Harnam Singh Dhumma (Damdami Taksal – Mehta) & various members of Sant Samaj, S. Simran Jeet Singh Mann (President of Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar), Bhai Kulbir Singh Barapind (President of Akali Dal Panch Pardhani), Bhai Daljit Singh Bittu, Bhai Harpal Singh Cheema and other leader of ADPP, Bhai Kanwarpal Singh Bittu (Dal Khalsa), Sarabjeet Singh Ghumaan & other members of Dal Khalsa, Karnail Singh Peermohammad (AISSF – Peermohammad), Mother and sisters of Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara, brother of Bhai Parmjeet Singh Bheora, sisters of Lakhwinder Singh, Gurmeet Singh and Harjeet Singh.
