Model code of conduct for LS elections cloud ruling party’s political conference at Holla Mohalla

Anandpur Sahib, Punjab (March 13, 2014): As per information the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of Punjab has slapped a notice on Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) directing that it should not allow any political party to hold a political conference at land owned by it.

Notably the Congress party had filed a complaint with the Election Commission on Monday alleging that SGPC’s religious stage shall be used by ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) for holding political conference during Holla Mohalla.

It may be recalled that every year SGPC funded stage is used used by Badal Dal but this year the model code of conduct is in operation in wake of upcoming parliamentary elections.

District Election Officer of Roopnagar (Ropar) has sent a notice to the manager of Takht Kesgarh Sahib. As per information the letter has been forwarded by the manager to the head office of the SGPC.

Besides Badal Dal, Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar (Mann) also hold political conference near the Sarovar on land owned by SGPC.

Besides Badal Dal and Mann Dal, the Congress Party and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are also expected to hold political conferences at Anandpur Sahib on March 16.
