Amritsar: Giani Gurbachan Singh and other SGPC appointed jathedars held a meeting at Akal Takht Sahib secretariat on Thursday in which the issue of modified model of Kirpan, suggested by the Italy government, was discussed. The meeting, attended by Giani Gurbachan Singh, Giani Iqbal Singh, Gaini Harpreet Singh, Giani Jagtar Singh and Giani Malkeet Singh, lasted for around 3 hours.
Talking to media persons after the meeting Giani Gurbachan Singh said that the model of Kirpan proposed by the Italy government was not as per Sikh traditions. He said that the samples modified Kirpan were tendered at Akal Takht Sahib by a Sikh delegation from Italy few weeks. He said that the proposed model was like a toy and as per suggestions made by the Sikh Sangat, the model was disapproved by ‘Singh Sahibs’.
