Srinagar/ Jammu: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi played two different tones in two different rallies – one in Jammu and the other one in Kashmir. On December 08, in Jammu, Narendra Modi decried its neglect, hailed its patriotic people and focused on the pride and prestige of the region. The Tribune noted that there were two different emotional and political tones of Narendra Modi at two different venues.
In Srinagar, his tone and tenor was purely Valley-centric — Kashmiris have suffered a lot and now they needed to be steered out of their distress. That, he said, would come by the way of justice that he would deliver if the BJP is voted to power.
Narendra Modi extended the message of friendship to Kashmir by wearing a “pheran” (a loose robe that is identified with Kashmir) and credited himself with making the Army admit its mistake in the November 3 killing of two youth in Budgam and indicting its men.
“This is for the first time in 30 years that the Army has admitted a mistake and a case has been registered. I am here to provide you justice and I need your cooperation”, said the Prime Minister. He went on to say “Kashmir has lost its sons. The blood of every son is very valuable and here I am to share your pain and anguish.”
During his address in Srinagar Narendra Modi said he shares the pain of the “loss of sons of Kashmir”. He promised justice and pledged to scale new heights of development in the Kashmir terming it to be “most beautiful place in India.”
The third phase of polling is scheduled tomorrow. The polling for the 46 Assembly seats in the Valley finishes with the fourth phase on December 14 . The party has fielded 33 candidates in Kashmir.
In Jammu’s Samba district, where Modi addressed a rally earlier in the day, he spoke of the discrimination with Jammu under successive governments. “ It seemed as if Jammu didn’t exist on the map of Jammu and Kashmir to them (Congress, NC & PDP). He also saluted the ‘spirit of patriotism’ of its people.
