Nabha Jail Authorities Fail to Release Acquitted Sikh political prisoner; Lawyer writes to High Court

Chandigarh: Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur, who maintains the list of Sikh political prisoners, has written an urgent letter to the Punjab and Haryana High Court expressing apprehension that a Sikh political prisoner- Makhan Singh, may be implicated in some false case by Punjab police.

Advocate Jaspal Singh told Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) that Makhan Singh Gill S/O Diwan Singh (presently confined in Maximum security jail, Nabha) was acquitted by Justice M. Jeyapaul, Judge Punjab and Haryana High Court vide order dated 03-02-2017 in CRA-S 691-SB of 2014. But he was not released by the jail authorities till Monday (06 Feb, 2017).

In a letter written to the High Court on late evening of Monday, Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur said that the High Court had sent Makhan Singh’s release order on Feb. 03 and the court of CJM Amritsar also sent his release order through email on February 06.

He said that the jail authorities did not release Makhan Singh. “It is pertinent to note that no other case is pending or decided against Makhan Singh”, said Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur.

“I personally make call to office of jail over phone but the officials are denying any email receive from Court but on the other hand court official is confirming the email sent to jail. I have apprehension that Makhan Singh can be implicated in some false case”, Advo. Manjhpur said in his letter to the High Court.
