AMRITSAR: Cricketer-turned-politician and Punjab Local Governments, Cultural Affairs and Tourism Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu on Sunday (January 20, 2017) wrote letters to Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding that the old pristine landscape and terrain of the area of Kartarpur Sahib (Pakistan) where Guru Nanak Sahib, founder of Sikhi, spent His last around 18 years, should not be disfigured in the name of ‘commercialization’ and ‘visitors comforts.’
In context of long pending demand of the Sikhs residing in Indian sub-continent for providing them visa-free access to Kartarpur Sahib through a corridor from Dera Baba Nanak to Gurdwara Sri Darbar Sahib, Kartarpur Sahib, Navjot Singh Sidhu’s name came in limelight after he hugged Pakistani army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa during swearing-in ceremony of Imran Khan at Islamabad. While hugging, the Pakistani army chief talked of the plan of constructing the corridor.
As both the governments have laid foundation stones on both sides of the international border and 35 percent construction has completed on Pakistan side, concern being raised by the Sikhs over proposed disfiguring of the original scene of the surrounding of the Kartarpur Sahib. Meanwhile, the Punjab Minister has written two separate letters to Imran Khan and Narendra Modi. However, content of both the letters is almost alike, which is shared here:
