Ludhiana, Punjab (November 30, 2012): According to information available with Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) former president of Akali Dal Panch Pardhani Bhai Daljit Singh Bittu and British National Jaswant Singh were brought to Ludhiana court from Maximum Securit Jail (Nabha) and Kapurthala Jail, respectively.

According to information extended by Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur, counsel of Bhai Daljit Singh and Jaswant Singh Azad, Punjab police had booked Bhai Daljit Singh on September 21, 2012 under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. But later on the name of Jaswant Singh Azad was also attached in this case.

According to Advocate Manjhpur current case against Bhai Daljit Singh is based on similar allegations that were levelled against Bhai Daljit Singh in 2009.

“The subject matter of 2009 UAPA Case and 2012 UAPA case against Bhai Daljit Singh is similar to each other” Advocate Manjhpur told SSN over phone.

“It’s interesting to note that prosecution has drastically failed during last three years to present any witness or evidence to substantiate it’s 2009 UAPA case against Bhai Daljit Singh; therefore progress in that case is nil even after three years of trial” he added.

“In the recent case we are waiting for the charge-sheet” Manjhpur told SSN.

It is notable that UAPA, as amended in 2008, is considered to be a masked revival of draconian laws such as TADA and POTA.

As the regular judge hearing the case was reportedly on leave Bhai Daljit Singh and Jaswant Singh Azad were presented before the court of Sh. Jasvir Singh, Duty Magistrate, who extended their judicial custody till December 14, 2012.
