Nomination process for Punjab Vidhan sabha and Amritsar Parliamentary Constituency bye-election to start from today

Chandigarh: Nomination process for Punjab Vidhan sabha and Amritsar Parliamentary Constituency bye- election will start from today with the notification.

Disclosing this a Spokesperson of Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab said that on January 11, 2017 Wednesday notification will be issued and nomination process will start. Nomination papers are to be filed with the concerned Returning Officer for all Assembly Constituencies between 11 AM and 3 PM in the after noon on any day other than a public holiday from January 11, 2017 to January 18, 2017. The Deputy Commissioner Amritsar is a Returning Officer for 02-Amritsar Parliamentary Constituency bye-election.

He further said that Scrutiny of nominations will be held on January 19, 2017 Thursday and last date for withdrawal of candidature is January 21, 2017. On February 4, 2017 Saturday polling will be held from8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. and counting of votes will be done on March 11, 2017.

He said that the whole process of election will be completed before March 15, 2017.

“The nomination papers are to be filled in form 2-B for Assembly elections and form 2A for 02-Amritsar Parliamentary Constituency bye-Election. Blank forms are available with the District Election Officer/Returning Officer. Typed nomination paper will also be accepted provided they are in the prescribed form.” He said.

Spokesperson further said in order to qualify for a Assembly Constituency (Vidhan Sabha) seat, a candidate should be registered as an elector in any Assembly Constituency in that State of Punjab. To satisfy the concerned Returning Officer on this point, candidates should produce a certified copy of the relevant entry of the electoral roll in force and for a Parliamentary Constituency (Lok Sabha) seat, a candidate should be registered as an elector for any Parliamentary Constituency.

A certificate is also required to make and subscribe to an oath or affirmation in the prescribed form before the concerned Returning Officer or any other person so authorized by the Election Commission of India. The oath/affirmation should taken / made by a candidate after his nomination paper has been filed and before the date fixed for the Scrutiny of nominations.
