Ajnala, Amritsar: A local court of Ajnala reportedly issued non-bailable warrants against ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) leader Vir Singh Lopoke, his son Rana Ranbir Singh Lopoke and another on Feb. 17. Vir Singh Lopoke is former SAD (Badal) MLA. He is also chairman of Amritsar planning board.

Ajnala judge Amrit Mahi issued non bailable warrants against Lopoke father-son duo and Baba Rachhpal Singh in farmer leader Sadhu Singh Takhtupura’s murder case. Court has directed them to appear before it on 4 March.

It may be recalled that farmers’ union leader Sadhu Singh Takhtupura was murdered on February 16, 2010. Leaders of the farmers’ union have been making allegations that Vir Singh Lopoke, his son Rana Ranbir Singh Lopoke, Baba Rachhpal Singh, Kulwinder Singh Sarpanch, Dr. Sarnjit Singh and Chairman Sarbjit Singh Lodhigujjar were responsible for Takhtupura’s murder. As the police did not file any case against these persons, a criminal complaint was filed against Lopoke and other in a local court.

Advocate Amarjit Singh Bai said that warrants were issued against these persons on earlier occasions also. Whereas Dr. Sharanjit Singh, Sarbjeet Singh Sodhigujjar and Kulwinder Singh Sarpanch have already secured bail from the court, Vir Singh Lopoke, Rana Ranbir Singh Lopoke and Baba Rachhpal Singh have not appeared in the court so far.
