Fatehgarh Sahib: Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) chief Avtar Singh Makkar had to face a symbolic protest from he Sikh sangat during his address at Fatehgarh Sahib yesterday (Dec. 25).
As per a news reported by the Indian Express (IE), the Sikh sangat registered their protest against Avtar Singh Makkar by raising Jakaras not allowing Makkar to utter a word for about five minutes.
Fatehgarh Sahib head-granthi Bhai Harpal Singh had to intervene in order to specify the gathering.
Later, however, Avtar Singh Makkar made his speech. He did not forget to express his anger over the protest and said that the behaviour of the gathering was (allegedly) “utterly mannerless and ridiculous”.
“Not letting me speak will not solve any purpose” IE quotes Makkar as saying.
SGPC chief and other affiliates of the Punjab’s ruling party have been facing wrath the Sikh sangat since Jathedars tired to grant (so-called) pardon to controversial Dera Sauda Sirsa chief. DSS chief is accused of blasphemy and disrespecting pious Sikh tenets in 2007 when he had attempted to personify himself as the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
